Pothos is one of the easiest houseplants you can grow, prized for its trailing stems of heart-shaped leaves splashed with green and creamy-yellow variegation.
Also known as Devil's Ivy, it grows quickly and happily either trails from a shelf or hanging basket or climbs a support such as a moss pole, bringing lush, year-round foliage to a room whatever the season.
It arrives as an established young plant in its growing pot, ready for a shelf, desk, bathroom or office. Pothos tolerates a wide range of indoor light, from a bright spot out of direct sun to a dimmer corner, though the variegation is brightest with a little more light. Let the top of the compost dry out between waterings rather than keeping it constantly wet.
Maintenance is minimal: an occasional trim keeps growth bushy, and stems root easily in water if you want to share cuttings. Pothos is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten, so keep trailing stems out of reach of curious pets.
