Three echeveria succulents in a growers' assorted mix, each a neat symmetrical rosette in shades of pink, purple, blue-grey or green.

Echeverias are among the easiest and most decorative succulents to keep. Each plant forms a tight rosette of fleshy leaves, and the mix is chosen at packing to give a varied set of forms and colours; it may include kinds such as 'Perle von Nürnberg', Echeveria elegans and Echeveria subsessilis, but the exact varieties will differ from those pictured. In spring and summer mature plants send up slender stems of small bell-shaped flowers.

They need the brightest spot you have. In anything dimmer the rosettes stretch, lose their compact shape and lose their pink and purple colouring, so a sunny windowsill is ideal. Use a free-draining compost, let it dry out completely between waterings and never let water sit in the centre of the rosette, because that is what rots the crown. Feed sparingly in spring and summer only. The RHS advises standing them outside over the summer months in a sheltered sunny spot, but they will not take frost or temperatures below about 5C, so bring them back in well before autumn and keep them almost dry through winter.

Supplied as three plants in individual 9cm pots, ready to display on arrival.
