'Blue Winter' is an upright, bushy rosemary selected for cold tolerance, and it stands a hard British winter better than most.
The needle-like foliage is dark green and strongly aromatic, and vivid blue flowers open from late spring through summer, bringing bees and butterflies to the plant. It is a proper kitchen herb, good for roasting, grilling, seasoning and infusing, and its upright habit suits a low fragrant hedge, a raised herb bed or the structure of a Mediterranean border. It also does well in containers, window boxes and patio pots.
Plant in a sheltered, sunny position in free-draining soil. Rosemary dislikes heavy, waterlogged ground far more than it dislikes cold, so drainage comes first. Water while it establishes, then only in long dry spells. Trim lightly after flowering to keep it compact, and avoid cutting back into old bare wood, which rosemary often will not regrow from. Feed container plants with a balanced liquid feed in spring. Rosemary can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when you prune it.
Supplied as three or six established plants in 1 litre pots, ready to plant out or pot on.
