USS Kentucky SSBN 737 Ship's Challenge Coin – Sail Design

The USS Kentucky SSBN 737 Ship's Challenge Coin features a rounded body topped by the head-on outline of a submarine sail and fairwater planes. Measuring 2 × 2.5 inches, this version pairs the boat's “Thoroughbred of the Fleet” horse design with a colorful Bangor, Washington scene.

Thoroughbred of the Fleet

The front displays “USS Kentucky” above a stylized horse character and a banner reading “Thoroughbred of the Fleet.” Submarine dolphin insignia flank the lower artwork, with SSBN 737 beneath. A horseshoe appears in the projecting sail design at the top.

Bangor, Washington reverse

The reverse centers a rearing horse in front of a sailing ship, evergreen trees, mountains and blue water. “Bangor, WA” appears above the scene, which is framed by a yellow rope motif and surrounded by smaller Navy rating symbols against a black background.
