Our QPS beneficial mix is a 14-species blend of flowers, herbs, clovers and garden plants created for sowing around veggie patches, garden beds and growing areas where you want more flowering diversity.

The blend combines low-growing, upright, leafy and flowering plants including alyssum, Queen Anne’s lace, buckwheat, clovers, coriander, cosmos, dill, feverfew, gypsophila, marigold and mustard. Because the seed mix contains different species, the patch develops in stages rather than looking uniform from day one.

The strength of this mix is its variety. Different leaf shapes, plant heights and flower forms help create a more diverse planting around vegetable beds and garden spaces.

Mix Feature What It Adds Flower diversity A mixture of small flowers, umbels, daisy-style blooms, clover flowers and larger ornamental flowers. Different plant heights Low, medium and taller-growing plants help create a less uniform garden strip. Herbs in flower Coriander, dill and other herb components can be left to mature and flower. Beneficial insect support Flowering plants such as alyssum, dill, coriander and marigold are useful components where the goal is to encourage beneficial insect activity around the garden. 🌱 Sowing & Establishment Guide

Because this is a mixed-species packet, the seeds are different sizes and will not all germinate or grow at exactly the same speed. Treat it as a garden blend rather than a single crop.

Stage Recommendation Growing Notes Sowing Method Direct sow Sow where you want the beneficial mix to establish rather than transplanting the blend as one crop. Seedbed Prepare a fine, weed-reduced surface Break up clods and remove heavy weed competition before sowing so smaller seeds can establish. Sowing Scatter thinly and evenly Mix the packet gently before sowing so the different seed sizes are redistributed through the blend. Covering Lightly rake or press into the surface Avoid burying the entire mix deeply. Gentle soil contact helps the finer seeds stay close to the surface. Moisture Keep evenly moist while establishing Use gentle watering so small seed is not washed into clumps. Germination Expect staggered emergence Different species will naturally appear at different times, so do not expect the whole patch to emerge together. 🌿 Where to Use Beneficial Mix Area How to Use It Veggie patch edges Create a mixed flowering strip beside productive vegetable beds. Raised-bed surrounds Sow in nearby open soil rather than crowding the main vegetable crop. Garden borders Use as an informal mixed border where varied height and flowering times suit the space. Unused garden strips Turn a bare sunny strip into a more diverse planting instead of leaving the soil empty. Near fruiting crops Use nearby where extra flowering diversity is wanted without allowing the mix to compete heavily with the crop. 🌸 What to Expect as the Mix Grows

Early stage: Expect a mixture of different seedling shapes and growth rates. Some species will establish quickly while others take longer.

Developing patch: The bed will become increasingly varied as clovers spread, herbs produce more foliage and the flowering annuals gain height.

Flowering stage: Rather than one single flush, flowers should appear in stages across different parts of the mix.

Natural variation: A mixed packet will never produce the exact same balance of species in every sowing. Seed distribution, weather, soil conditions and local competition can all influence which plants dominate.

✓ Success Checklist Action Why It Matters Mix the packet before sowing Different seed sizes can settle during handling, so remixing helps improve distribution. Start with a clean seedbed Reduces early competition from established weeds. Sow thinly Dense clumps can cause the quickest species to crowd out slower seedlings. Water gently Helps keep small seed in place while the patch establishes. Expect uneven emergence This is a 14-species blend, not a single variety with one germination speed. Let selected plants flower The flowering stage is what gives the mix its strongest visual and beneficial-garden value. QPS Grower’s Tip
🐝 Don’t judge this mix by the first seedlings to appear. With 14 different species, some plants will race ahead while others take their time. Keep the seedbed evenly moist, give the patch room to develop and let a good portion of the herbs and flowers reach bloom. The variety is the whole point of the mix.
