Lady in Kastoria #1

Lady in Kastoria #1 is a mixed media work by George Tatakis, available as an original painting or a poster reproduction. Select the version and dimensions from the product options; the materials and signature details below refer to the original painting.

The figure holds a fixed frontal position, centered and uninterrupted, with the costume forming a dense surface across the body. The background separates completely, allowing the subject to stand as a singular, contained presence.

Color disrupts the expected reading of the portrait. The face, garment, and ground operate as independent layers, each defined by contrast rather than continuity. The image moves between depiction and construction, where surface overtakes depth.

The work is produced through a layered process: a photograph is printed, painted with acrylic, and reprinted, binding the original image with its alteration.
