About Lion's Mane mushroom

Named for its cascading, icicle-like white spines, Lion's Mane has been used for centuries in traditional East Asian wellness practices. It is unusual among functional mushrooms in being a genuine culinary delicacy too, with a delicate flavour often compared to crab or lobster. Today it is one of the most popular supplement mushrooms in the UK, widely known as the "smart" or "nootropic" mushroom. Its fruiting body naturally contains beta-glucans, along with the hericenones and erinacines that are most often discussed in Lion's Mane research.

How our extract is made

Not all Lion's Mane is made the same way, so it is worth knowing what you are buying:

• Fruiting body vs mycelium: we use the mushroom's fruiting body - the part prized in traditional use - rather than mycelium grown on grain.
• Dual extraction: we use both hot water and alcohol, because some of the mushroom's naturally occurring compounds are water-soluble and others are alcohol-soluble. A single method captures only part of the picture.
• Concentration: a 10:1 extract means around ten parts mushroom are concentrated into one part extract, giving the equivalent of 15,000mg per bottle.
