What is a Creel?

“A creel is a square or rectangular type basket made from sally rods or wicker grown locally for the purpose of carrying heavy loads of turf, seaweed or potatoes on a donkey's back. In olden times the creel was carried across the shoulders on a man's or woman's back.”

Each set includes 24 solid sods made to burn easily and slowly, filling your home with the original smell of an Irish cottage. Every creel basket is filled, tied and sealed in foil to keep the incense free from moisture.

These incense sods are made as exact miniature replicas of a real turf sod. As turf fuel is no longer sold in Ireland, this once distinct aroma is becoming harder to find.

Keep the scent and spirit alive in your own home with this unique Irish peat incense basket.

The unique creel basket is made from 3D printed brown matt PLA plastic. It is solidly constructed and ideal for storing your turf incense when needed.

Basket measures 10cm x 6cm x 4.5cm.

Gift box measures 15cm x 12cm x 9cm.

Produced on our historic farmland in Silverbridge in the heart of South Armagh, this set lets you recreate the smell of rural Ireland in your own home without owning a fireplace.

With the incense turf sods placed on the slate burner and ignited, you will soon be transported back to old Irish cottages, where warmth and cooking were provided by the open fire and turf sods burning within.

This incense has been specially designed to be easy to ignite, with a lasting smoulder that fills the room with the distinctive smell of an open turf fire.

Each turf sod should burn for approximately 35-45 minutes.

Slates are hand cut at approximately 8cm x 10cm. Each sod varies from 3cm to 4.5cm. They are natural products and will vary in size, shape and performance when burned.

All incense sods are made from real turf, reconstituted to burn well. Each small batch is made by hand and with love in County Armagh ❤️
