Airman is an unscented beard balm for men who want hold without a scent. It has no fragrance, no added scent and no additives. It conditions the beard, keeps its shape and settles flyaways, and it does all of that without leaving you smelling of anything.
Unscented, and Actually Fragrance-Free
The American Academy of Dermatology separates unscented from fragrance-free for a reason. An unscented product can still contain a fragrance that has been covered up. A fragrance-free product should not contain fragrance at all. Airman is both, with nothing added to mask the smell of the ingredients.
If you have reacted to a scented balm before, or you simply do not want your beard competing with a cologne, this is the one to start with. The AAD's guidance on fragrance-free skin care explains the difference in more detail.
What It Does
- Conditions the beard with jojoba and argan oil.
- Adds light hold, so the shape you comb in stays put.
- Tames flyaways and adds a little weight to the ends of a longer beard.
- Uses beeswax to form a protective layer around the hair and the skin underneath.
- Leaves no scent behind.
It is not a styling gel and it is not a growth product. It is the finishing step for a beard that has already been washed and oiled.
What Is in It
Jojoba oil, argan oil and beeswax, with nothing added for scent. Every tin is filled in Manassas, Virginia, in small batches. One tin is 2 oz.
How to Use It
- Start with clean, dry beard. If you use oil, put the oil on first and give it a minute.
- Scrape a thumbnail-sized amount of balm from the tin. Less than you think you need.
- Warm it between your palms until it softens.
- Work it through the middle and ends of the beard, then comb or brush it into shape.
- Add a little more if the beard is long or the weather is dry. Stop before it looks greasy.
Balm or Oil?
The oil goes on the skin under the beard. That is where itch and flaking start. The balm goes on the outside, where it holds shape and keeps the ends tidy. You can use one without the other. If you want both, use the Airman Beard Oil first and the balm on top, or buy the Pair and save on the two.
Questions
Will it make my beard greasy? Only if you use too much. Start with a thumbnail-sized amount and add more only if the beard still looks dry.
Can I use it on a short beard? Yes. Use a pea-sized amount and keep it to the ends.
Does it have a scent? No. There is no added fragrance, so the only smell is the faint natural smell of the oils and beeswax.
Does it have sun protection? No. It is a beard conditioner, not a sunscreen.
