Aficionado is a beard oil for men who want a warm, spiced scent that reads as deliberate rather than sweet. The notes are amber, clove, cherry and spice, closer to a cigar lounge than a cologne counter.
The Scent
Amber and clove come first. Cherry softens the middle without turning it sugary, and the spice stays dry at the end. It is not floral and it is not citrus. It suits evening wear, cooler weather and a beard you keep shaped rather than wild.
What It Does
Jojoba and argan oil carry the scent and do the work. A few drops moisturize the skin under the beard, soften coarse hair and settle the dryness that turns into itch and flaking. Vitamin E is in the blend. It is not a growth product and it will not cure a skin condition.
How to Use It
- Wash your face and pat it dry. Damp skin takes the oil better.
- Put four or five drops in your palm. Less for a short beard.
- Work your fingers down to the skin under the beard, not just over the hair.
- Comb through. Use it once a day, or twice if your skin is very dry.
Questions
Will it clash with cologne? Wear one or the other. Aficionado is strong enough to hold its own, and layering two warm scents usually muddies both.
Is it too heavy for summer? Use two or three drops instead of five. The scent is warm, but the oil itself is light.
Should I add the balm? If you want hold, yes. Aficionado Beard Balm carries the same scent, and the Pair costs less than buying both separately.
