Historical Context
Founded in Paris in 1987 by Christian Lacroix, the French fashion house quickly became known for exuberant couture that combined historical references, vivid colour, theatrical silhouettes, and richly decorative details. In 1989, Lacroix expanded into accessories including glasses, with the eyewear line licensed to Italian manufacturer Genny for production and distribution.
The eyewear translated Lacroix’s opulent aesthetic into bold proportions, sculptural shapes, colour contrasts, and elaborate decorative elements. Italian-made examples reflect the important role of Italy’s eyewear industry in producing the house’s frames while retaining Lacroix’s distinctive French fashion identity.
