Historical Context
The history of Bachmann eyewear traces to a Philadelphia company founded in 1833, which expanded into eyeglass-frame production in 1912 using celluloid, then an innovative material for optical frames. By the late 1920s, Bachmann Brothers had developed its sunglasses business, including the Solarex line, which became an important part of the company’s eyewear production.
The company became known for its expertise in injection-molded plastics and produced a range of sunglasses and protective eyewear, including products made for military use during the Second World War. The pictured frame carries both the Bachmann name and a molded Hong Kong manufacturing mark, placing this example within the company’s later international production history.
