Why silk rather than elastic
Hair breaks where it is gripped. A cotton or elastic tie catches the cuticle and holds it under tension, which is what produces the kink at the crown and the short broken strands around the hairline. Silk has a fraction of that surface friction, so the tie slides rather than drags — no dent when you let it down, and markedly less breakage over months of daily wear.
A small gift that does not look small
Jacquard is woven on a loom that lifts each warp thread individually, so the dragonfly is part of the structure of the cloth — it cannot rub off, fade or crack the way a print does. It is the same technique used for our silk shawls, at a fraction of the size.
Which is what makes these work as a small present: the craft is visible, and the price is not the point.
