Why 80% silk and 20% bamboo viscose
Pure silk at this weight is beautiful and fragile — it is the fibre that wears through first at the seam and the fold. Blending in bamboo viscose gives the cloth markedly more tensile strength and abrasion resistance, which is what you want in something washed regularly and slept on nightly for years. It also takes dye differently from silk, which is part of how the weavers achieve their depth of colour. It is a deliberate choice, not a compromise.
If you want a 100% silk label
This is the most durable and the heaviest pillowcase we sell, and the only one woven where our story began. It is not the one to buy if the label matters more than the cloth.
For that, our 22-momme Hangzhou sets are pure mulberry silk throughout.
The only pillowcases we sell that are woven where our story began. These are made on traditional looms in Nha Xa, the Vietnamese silk village our founder's family comes from — an 800-year-old weaving community, and the same place our hand-dyed scarves are made.
They are woven from 80% silk and 20% bamboo viscose, at 25 momme — heavier than the 22-momme standard for luxury bedding.
Why the blend, and why it is not a compromise
Pure silk at this weight is beautiful and fragile; it is the fibre that wears through first at the seam and the fold. Blending in bamboo viscose gives the cloth noticeably more tensile strength and abrasion resistance, which is what you want in something that is washed regularly and slept on every night for years. It also takes dye differently from silk, which is part of how the weavers achieve their depth of colour.
So this is the most durable pillowcase in our range, and the heaviest, and the one with the shortest distance between the loom and you. It is not the one to buy if you want a label that reads 100% silk — for that, our 22-momme Hangzhou sets are pure mulberry silk throughout.

What handwoven actually means here
Cloth woven on a traditional loom carries small irregularities in the weave that a power loom would eliminate — a slightly heavier pick here, a fractional variation in the surface there. On a handwoven textile these are the evidence of the maker rather than a fault, and they are the reason no two pieces are quite identical. If you want a flawlessly uniform surface, buy the machine-woven sets; if you want the one with a person's hand in it, buy this.
Kind to hair and skin
The practical case is the same as for any good silk pillowcase, and it is mechanical rather than magical. Cotton grips hair at the cuticle and holds skin in a fold for hours at a time, which is where overnight frizz and morning sleep creases come from. A smooth, low-friction surface lets both slide instead. Silk is also far less absorbent than cotton, so it draws less moisture from your skin overnight.
Colours may vary slightly between screens and in different lighting.
